On Saturday, January 9th, I’ll be speaking to the Mystery Writers of America’s Central Florida Group at the Mr. Dora public library. Dallas Gorham, the group’s leader, asked that I give an overview of the most common mistakes writers make, so I’ve pulled together something special. Drawing on my experiences as an editor, creative writing teacher, and writing coach, I came up with an hour-long workshop: Seven Common Mistakes Writers Make and How to Avoid Them. I’ve distilled the essential mindset needed to write great stories down to a few fundamentals–seven, to be exact, and will share them with the MWA group this Saturday. The meeting is at 10:30 a.m. and open to anyone with an interest in crime writing, whether Mystery or Thriller. If you are in the Lake, Orange, or Seminole County area, I hope to see you there.
